We would like to congratulate Professor Zrinka Stahuljak for being elected to serve as the new director of the UCLA Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (CMRS)! Professor Stahuljak will serve as the director for the next three-year term, effective July 1, 2019.
Zrinka Stahuljak is Professor of French and Comparative Literature and has taught at UCLA since 2006. She is the author of Bloodless Genealogies of the French Middle Ages (2005) and Pornographic Archaeology: Medicine, Medievalism, and the Invention of the French Nation (2013; French trans. 2018), and co-author of The Adventures of Gillion de Trazegnies: Chivalry and Romance in the Medieval East (2015) and Thinking Through Chrétien de Troyes (2011). Her next book, Medieval Fixers: Translation Across the Mediterranean, 1250-1530, is on interlingual mediators in the medieval Mediterranean. She has also published widely in contemporary translation and interpreting studies. She has held visiting professorships at the Collège de France (2018), Université Rennes 2 (2016), and Warwick University (2019), and fellowships from the Guggenheim (2016), Fulbright (2013), and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton (2005-06).
Since her arrival at UCLA, Zrinka Stahuljak has served as CMRS Associate Director (2008-2012); co-organized six international conferences or symposia; organized three Mediterranean research seminars (2009-2010), which brought together more than 40 researchers of international renown to UCLA; and led the cross-divisional Late Antique, Medieval and Renaissance (LAMAR) consortium that offers a crucial methodology seminar for all graduate students in related fields (taught by different faculty members since 2012-2013) and has funded a diverse group of graduate students with four first-year fellowships and 28 summer fellowships.
