SUMMARY:Annual Edward W. Said Lecture - Dr. Angela Davis
DESCRIPTION:“International Solidarity in the Era of Black Lives Matter and Justice for Palestine”\n  \n\nCLICK HERE to view a recording of this lecture\n  \nCLICK HERE to download the flyer for this lecture\n  \nThis lecture was held virtually via Zoom Webinar at 12:00 PM PST on Thursday\, April 14\, 2022. For more information about the Edward W. Said Professorship and Annual Lecture\, click here. \n  \n \n  \nThrough her activism and scholarship over many decades\, Angela Davis has been deeply involved in movements for social justice around the world.  Her work as an educator – both at the university level and in the larger public sphere – has always emphasized the importance of building communities of struggle for economic\, racial\, and gender justice. She is the author of eleven books\, including Abolition.Feminism.Now\, co-authored with Gina Dent\, Erica Meiners\, and Beth Richie\, and a new edition of her Autobiography\, both of which were released this year. Having helped to popularize the notion of a “prison industrial complex\,” she now urges her audiences to think seriously about the future possibility of a world without carceral systems and to help forge a 21st century abolitionist movement.
