Thank You, Kathy and Ross

Kathleen L. Komar, Distinguished Professor of Comparative Literature, and Ross Shideler, Research Professor of Comparative Literature and Scandinavian, have made a generous donation to the UCLA Division of Humanities in support of the Department of Comparative Literature and Scandinavian Section. As part of the Centennial Campaign for UCLA, Kathy and Ross established the Komar Shideler Endowed Student Fund for the Humanities, which will provide critical graduate funding for students in both departments.

Their support will be vital to the work of our graduate students, whose research contributes to the field of Comparative Literature and beyond. When asked about their decision to make this gift to UCLA, Kathy and Ross stated:

“We give to support the study of languages and literature at UCLA because we need to understand other cultures and traditions now more than ever.”

Thanks to their gift, talented graduate students will be able to advance their studies in various languages other than English and travel to archives and other important research sites abroad. This endowment will help inform the future of the field of comparative literature—and the humanities at large—while helping UCLA to attract the best and brightest future scholars. Thank you once again, Kathy and Ross!
